BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Senior Kylie Beaton (Epsom, N.H.) and junior Jordan McDermott (East Bridgewater, Mass.) each netted a goal and an assist to lead Bridgewater State to a 3-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.
McDermott gave the visiting Bears (6-8, 4-2 MASCAC) the only tally they would need in the 27th minute of play when she converted a pass from sophomore Molly Copeland (North Falmouth, Mass.) for her seventh goal of the season, and junior Laura Sudbey (Rockland, Mass.) extended Bridgewater State’s edge to 2-0 with her second marker of the fall on Beaton’s feed with 1:50 remaining before intermission. Beaton provided an insurance goal in the 68th minute of play for the Bears (her second of the season) off McDermott’s corner kick to account for the final score.
Senior Kayla Grover (Haverhill, Mass.) picked up her sixth win of the season without making a save in goal for Bridgewater State, while sophomore Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I.) made a career-high 20 stops in her season debut in net for the host Buccaneers (3-9, 0-6 MASCAC), as the Bears collected 39 of the 40 shots for the afternoon while holding a 17-0 advantage in corner kicks for the match.
Massachusetts Maritime closes out its 2010 home schedule on Tuesday evening by hosting Suffolk in a non-league outing at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Bridgewater State travels to Keene, N.H. on Wednesday evening to take on Keene State in a non-league match that begins at 6:30 p.m.
