WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Sophomore Kayley Miller (Ludlow, Mass.) netted a hat trick to lead Westfield State to a 6-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Miller gave the host Owls (2-7, 1-1 MASCAC) the only goal they would need in the 11th minute on a feed from sophomore Leann Rivard (Chicopee, Mass.), and after sophomore Colleen Bazinet’s (Charlton, Mass.) marker in the 31st minute extended that margin to 2-0, Miller completed her hat trick by tallying twice in just over three-and-a-half minutes to give Westfield State a 4-0 advantage at the break. Senior Kate MacLellan (Wilbraham, Mass.) and sophomore Brittanie McGregor (Ludlow, Mass.) completed the hosts’ scoring with goals in the 78th and 83rd minutes, respectively, to account for the final score.
Bazinet, MacLellan and McGregor each registered a goal and an assist in the win for Westfield State, which also received helpers from senior Ali Pease (Ludlow, Mass.) and freshman Kelsey Leandro (Dartmouth, Mass.). Freshman Jess Habif (Holliston, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for the Owls without making a first half save, while junior Jess Pieciak (Three Rivers, Mass.) made one stop over the final 45 minutes of action for the hosts. Sophomore Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) made 16 saves in goal in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (1-4, 0-2 MASCAC), as Westfield State recorded 38 of the 39 shots for the contest.
