BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Goals by junior Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, Mass.) and freshmen Brittany Rotatori (Auburn, Mass.) and Laura Maunsell (Medford, Mass.) lifted Worcester State to a 3-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Friday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Rotatori gave the visiting Lancers (7-4-3, 3-0-2 MASCAC) the only marker they would need with just under four minutes remaining in the opening half, as she converted a feed from junior Danielle Clifford (Attleboro, Mass.) for her first collegiate tally and a 1-0 advantage at the break.  Maunsell extended that lead to 2-0 in the 56th minute on a pass from fellow freshman Megan O’Leary (Whitman, Mass.) for her second goal of the season, and Rafferty provided an insurance marker (her third of the year) in the 63rd minute off Clifford’s second assist of the evening to account for the final score.

Senior Angieszaka Sychtysz (Warren, Mass.) picked up her first win of the season in goal for Worcester State without making a save, while sophomore Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) made 12 stops in net, including 10 over the final 45 minutes of action, in the setback for the host Buccaneers (3-7, 0-5 MASCAC), as Worcester State had all 28 shots for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts UMass Boston in a non-league outing on Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Worcester State will be idle until next Saturday, October 23rd when the Lancers travel to Salem, Mass. to take on Salem State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match that begins at 1:00 p.m.
