LEICESTER, Mass. --  Senior Stephanie Lee (Acton, Mass.) netted the first hat trick in school history to lift Massachusetts Maritime to a season-opening 4-0 non-league college women’s soccer victory over Becker Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The triumph enabled the visiting Buccaneers (1-0) to snap a 21-match winless streak that dated back to October 7, 2008 with a 3-2 double overtime triumph over Wheelock during the program’s first varsity campaign, as Lee also became the program’s leading scorer in just her first career appearance for Massachusetts Maritime, which also set a school record for goals in a match in just the 28th varsity contest in program history.

“It’s a great feeling—all of our hard work in the pre-season, and all of the lessons that we learned last year, paid off today,” Buccaneer Head Coach Christine McCarey said after the match.  “I’m proud of everyone who is helping to continue to build this program.”

Lee gave the Buccaneers the only marker they would need in the 24th minute with an unassisted goal that staked the visitors to a 1-0 advantage at the break, and her penalty kick conversion in the 55th minute extended that margin to 2-0.  Lee’s second unassisted tally of the match completed her hat trick exactly nine minutes later, and freshman Jaclyn Labrecque (Sutton, Mass.) iced the Massachusetts Maritime triumph with her first collegiate goal, an unassisted marker with just under nine minutes remaining, to cap the scoring.

Sophomore Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) collected her first collegiate win and shutout in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with a five-save effort, while freshman Christina Boucher (Pawcatuck, Conn.) made 10 stops in net in the setback for the host Hawks (1-1), as the Buccaneers outshot Becker by a 19-8 margin for the contest, including an 11-4 edge over the final 45 minutes of action.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Cambridge, Mass. on Saturday morning to take on Lesley in a non-league outing that begins at 10:00 a.m., while Becker travels to Lyndonville, Vt. on Saturday afternoon to square off with Lyndon State in a non-league match that begins at 1:00 p.m.
