BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshman Tayla Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) scored a pair of second half goals to snap a 1-1 tie and lift UMass Boston to a 3-1 non-league college women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Andrews gave the visiting Beacons (9-4-3) the lead for good just 3:13 after intermission with an unassisted marker, and she provided an insurance tally (her 14th of the season) with 2:15 to play on a feed from fellow freshman Samantha Cristoforo (Rockland, Mass.).  Freshman Lauren Salem (Westfield, Mass.) had given the host Buccaneers (3-8) an early 1-0 advantage just 9:24 into the match when she converted a pass from junior Nicole Newell (Plymouth, Mass.) for her fourth goal of the season, but senior Nicki Finamore (Weymouth, Mass.) evened matters for UMass Boston in the 35th minute with her second marker of the season, an unassisted goal that deflected off a defender in front, setting up Andrews’ second half heroics.

Freshman Katie Coscia (Pittsfield, Mass.) picked up her ninth win of the season in goal for UMass Boston by making one first half save, while sophomore Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) made 10 stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime as the Beacons outshot the Buccaneers by a 24-4 margin for the contest, including a 10-1 second half advantage.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at Noon, while UMass Boston entertains Plymouth State in a Little East Conference clash at Clark Center Field in Boston on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
