FITCHBURG, Mass. --  Junior Carissa Kennedy (Somerset, Mass.) and freshman Rachel Jamieson (Foxboro, Mass.) each netted a pair of goals to lift Fitchburg State to a 6-2 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday morning at Elliot Field.

The host Falcons (7-4-1, 2-2 MASCAC) used markers from Kennedy and senior Ali Landry (Bellingham, Mass.) in the opening 18-plus minutes of play to take a 2-0 edge at the break, but the visiting Buccaneers (2-6, 0-4 MASCAC) sliced that margin in half less than five minutes after intermission on senior Stephanie Lee’s (Acton, Mass.) fourth tally of the season.  Jamieson and Kennedy extended Fitchburg State’s lead to 4-1 with goals that came in a 3:16 span in the 52nd and 55th minutes, respectively, and after freshman Lauren Salem’s (Westfield, Mass.) second marker of the season gave Massachusetts Maritime its final tally of the day in the 59th minute, tallies by Jamieson and freshman Nicole Stone (Webster, Mass.) in a 1:35 span accounted for the final score.

Landry added a pair of assists to go with her goal in the triumph for Fitchburg State, who also received single helpers from senior Courtney Kimball (Plymouth, Mass.) and junior Hannah Mitchell (Hopedale, Mass.) on the day.  Freshman Jillian Kirouac (Leominster, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with one first half save for the Falcons, who received a pair of second half stops from junior Melanie Brent (West Hartford, Conn.), while sophomore Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) made 12 saves in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime as Fitchburg State outshot the Buccaneers by a 35-5 margin for the contest, including 22 over the final 45 minutes of play.

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Pine Manor in a non-league outing that begins at 4:00 p.m., while Fitchburg State heads to Wellesley, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon to square off with Wellesley in a non-league match that also begins at 4:00 p.m.
