Men's Soccer: Bucs Draw with Corsairs in Rainy Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, MA -- Men's soccer took on UMass Dartmouth on rain soaked Cressy Field on Tuesday evening in non-conference play. The Bucs fell behind early in the first half and were able to score two quick goals to open the second half. The Corsairs answered late to rescue a point and the match finished in a 2-2 draw.

Freshman Harry Cooley scored his first and second goals of his career in the second half to tie the game and take the lead. Ryan Soughou picked up an assist on the first Cooley score and Jesus Sanchez tallied his first career assist on the second goal. Goalkeeper Quinn Kelly made eight saves and allowed two goals in the draw.

Justin Petrillo and Brandon Araujo were the goal scorers for Dartmouth. B. Rivas Martinez and Lucas Passaro each had an assist. Goalkeeper Jack Waterhouse made two saves and allowed the two goals.

The Corsairs opened the scoring midway through the first half on Petrillo's goal in the 20th minute. UMass Dartmouth held the one-goal lead the remainder of the first half into the break.

In the second half, the Bucs made the most of their early second half attacks, getting two goals, one in the 49th minute, the second in the 50th minute from Cooley. Maritime held on to their one-goal lead after erasing the deficit for 35 minutes. Trying to hold off the Corsairs, UMD found a way through and scored the game tying goal in the 85th minute from Araujo. The Buccaneers had a chance in the final second of the game on a long shot but it was squandered by Waterhouse keeping the game at a 2-2 tie.

The Buccaneers were outshot 19-10 in the match and while the Corsairs had 10 shots on target, the Bucs were efficient with only four on goal and still scored two goals. Dartmouth also had nine corner kicks to the Bucs one.

The Buccaneers are back on the road on Saturday for a conference game against Westfield State at 3pm.
