Men's Soccer: Freshman Shine in First Half of Loss to Colonels

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- In each of the team's third game in five days, the Buccaneers and Curry Colonels faced off in a non-conference matchup at Clean Harbors Stadium. The first half was filled with fireworks, and in the second half, Curry pulled away for an 8-2 victory over Maritime.

Freshman Luke Twomey scored his first career goal in the 34th minute for the Bucs on a rebound off the goalkeeper. Matthew Lipkind took the shot that rebounded to Twomey and was credited with an assist. In the 42nd minute, CJ Vincent scored his first of the season on a pass over the top from freshman Myles Isidoro. Goalkeeper Quin Kelly made four saves in the loss.

The first Curry goal was credited as an owl goal against the Buccaneers with an arrant header finding its way into the back of the net. JD Santiago scored the second Colonels goal in the 12th minute. Lucas Drons scored four goals in the match, all in the second half and all in a row in the 60th, 68th, 73rd and 76th minutes. Matt Angelini scored in the 80th minute and Morgan Estrella scored the final goal in the 87th minute.

Curry outshot Maritime 22-25 and had eight corners to the Bucs five. It was a chippy match with 32 total fouls, 17 on Curry, 15 on the Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers travel to New York on Saturday for a matinee matchup with the SUNY Maritime Privateers under the Throggs Neck Bridge at 2pm.
