Men's Soccer: Bucs Lose Non-Conference Matchup with Bison

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers took on the Nichols Bison at home on Tuesday in their final tune-up before conference play begins on Friday against Fitchburg State. The Buccaneers went down 3-0 in the first half and had some life at the beginning of the second half scoring a goal of their own. Nichols went on to score four second half goals to grab the win, 7-1.

CJ Vincent scored his team leading third goal of the season for Maritime in the 49th minute on a pass from Luke Twomey. It was Twomey's team leading third assists of the season. Starting Goalkeeper Quinn Kelly made four saves in his 45 minutes of work in the first half though he did allow three goals.

William Savage recorded a hat trick in the first half with his three goals coming in a 10-minute span from the 30th to 39 minutes. Bison leading goal scorer Brady Stevenson scored twice in the game and had an assist. Ethan Gosper and Fernando Barranco both scored once in the win. Freshman goalkeeper Derek Axon made three saves and allowed one goal in his third win of the season between the pipes.

The match went back and forth in the first 28 minutes at Clean Harbors Stadium. In the 29th minute, Savage scored his first, unassisted. His second came three minutes later on a pass from Stevenson and his third was unassisted in the 39th minute. To open the second half, Vincent cut the deficit to two goals with his goal from Twomey. In the final 12 minutes of the game Barranco scored in the 79th minute followed by Gospers score in the 88th. In the 89 minute Stevenson scored his first and followed that up with his second from John Milardo in the 90th minute with 19 seconds on the clock. 

The Buccaneers will open their MASCAC play and Homecoming weekend at the Academy on Friday evening at 7pm when they host the Fitchburg State Falcons.
