Men's Soccer: Buccaneers Sink Privateers in Comeback Fashion

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. -- Saturday afternoon, the Buccaneers traveled to New York to take on the SUNY Maritime Privateers under the Throggs Neck Bridge. Looking for their first win of the season, Coach Perry's squad netted three goals to earn the victory, 3-2, over the Privateers.

Ryan Soughou scored the first goal of the game for the Bucs, his second of the season, in the 25th minute on a turnaround half volley that beat the keeper to his left. Luke Twomey was credited with the assist, his second of the season, on the goal. In the second half, CJ Vincent stood over the ball on the spot and buried a penalty kick in the 54th minute. The goal was Vincent's second of the season. In the 66th minute, Brendan Bouressa, a senior defensemen for the Bucs, scored his first career goal on a snipe from 20 yards away. Goalkeeper Quinn Kelly earned his first victory in goal for the Bucs making six saves and allowing the two Privateer goals.

SUNY's goals came from Thomas Luongo in the 18th minute of the game on a penalty shot. In the 81st minute, Fanis Tsatalios scored his first goal of the season on a pass from Justin Song that beat the keeper to his left. Goalkeeper Danny Madeira made five saves and allowed three goals in the loss.

In total, the Buccaneers were outshot 20-18. Both teams had the same amount of shots on goal with eight. SUNY led the way in the corners category with seven to the Bucs 3.

Luongo opened the scoring on his penalty attempt in the 18th minute. Seven minutes later, Twomey found Soughou, which is becoming a common connection for the Buccaneers, to tie the game at 1-1. Tied at one is how the teams went to the break.

In the second half, the Bucs scored their second on their own penalty attempt from the foot of Vincent in the 54th minute, giving the Buccaneers a 2-1 advantage. In the 66th minute, Bouressa scored what would end up being the game winner on a screamer from 20 yards away that beat Madeira. SUNY pulled back within one in the 82nd minute on Tsatalios's score from Song. With under 10 to play, the Bucs defense held strong and earned them their first victory of the season, 3-2, over their Maritime counterparts to the south.

The Buccaneers are back on the pitch on Tuesday evening, September 13th, when they take on Nichols at Clean Harbors Stadium in their final tune up before conference play. Kick off is set for 7pm.
