Buccaneers Fall to Rams in Home Opener

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers (0-1) hosted the Suffolk Rams (2-0) on Monday afternoon in a Labor Day matinee at Clean Harbors Stadium. A strong Rams squad got the best of the young Bucs, 7-0.

Suffolk scored three goals in the first half with the first coming in the ninth minute on a corner kick. Miquel Varela delivered the ball in to the box and TJ Maselek scored at the back post. Taj Jensen scored, unassisted, in the 13th minute and less than a minute later, Varela scored one of his own on a pass from Carter Vanbuskirk. The Rams added four goals in the second half. Maselek scored his second on a corner delivery from Edson Doirain. Andrew Awada scored his first in the 71st minute to make it 5-0. Ryan Chamberlain, who had assisted on the Awada goal, scored in the 75th minute on a pass from Matteo Simonini through the middle of the Bucs defense. Awada scored the final goal, assisted by Joaquin Heller Della Vecchia, in the 82nd minute.

Maritime took five shots in the game, two from freshman PJ Cullivan, one of which was on target. CJ Vincent also took two shots in the game. Goalkeeper Quinn Kelly made four saves and allowed three goals. In his Bucs debut, Nicos Pattihis made two saves in the second half.

Suffolk outpaced the Bucs in shots, 18-5, and corners, 6-2. 

The Bucs are back home on Wednesday, September 7th at 7pm against Curry.
