Men's Soccer: Bucs Lose Close Game to MCLA

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Friday night, men's soccer hosted MCLA, a team they have beaten in their last two regular season matchups and lost to in the 2021 MASCAC Quarterfinals. In this matchup, the Trailblazers got the best of the Bucs, 1-0, to earn their first conference win of the season.

Maritime took 15 shots in the game, three on target. Eight of the shots, four each, came from Quin Lutz and CJ Vincent. Lutz, Harry Cooley and Ryan Soughou each had a shot on target. Goalkeeper Quinn Kelly made four saves and allowed the lone goal.

For MCLA, Jacob Richardson was credited with the goal and Wesley Call picked up the assist. The Trailblazers took 15 shots in the game, five on target. Goalkeeper Sam Edge made three saves in the victory.

It is always an exciting matchup when the Bucs and 'Blazers meet and this game followed that trend. It was chippy for all ninety minutes and there were four yellow cards handed out in this one, three to MCLA players. Late in the first half, in the 32nd minute, MCLA got the ball in to the box; it ping ponged around for a bit before falling to Call who pushed the ball to the middle of the net where Richardson was to tap it in for the game winner.

Maritime outshot MCLA, 8-6, in the second half though they couldn't find the back of the net. MCLA took home the 1-0 conference win.

The Buccaneers are on the road for their next game on Tuesday, October 4th against UMass Dartmouth at 7pm.
