Men's Lacrosse Season Comes to an End in LEC Playoffs

KEENE, N.H. --  A successful season for the Buccaneers men's lacrosse team under first-year head coach Mike Smith came to an end on Tuesday afternoon in New Hampshire at the hands of Keene State in the Little East Conference Quarterfinals. The Bucs pushed hard at the end to get back in the game but came up short losing to the Owls 22-12.

How It Happened

Keene took a big lead early in the quarterfinal game against the Bucs netting the first seven goals before the Bucs could get on the board. The Owls scored their first at 12:58 of the first and the seventh with 7:26 left in the quarter. The Buccaneers got goals from Kosiewicz, Barrett, and Walker in the final six minutes and didn't allow the Owls to score again. Keene led Maritime at the end of one, 7-3.

In the second, the Owls picked the scoring back up with four goals unanswered from 13:38 to 7:08 of the quarter giving them an 11-3 lead midway through the second quarter. Allgaier scored for the Bucs at 5:02 to bring the score to 11-4. Keene proceeded to score three more goals in a row to extend their lead to 10 goals, 14-4 with just over a minute left in the half. With 11 second left in the second, Barrett scored again for the Buccaneers and the teams went to the break with the Owls leading 14-5. 

The Bucs scored the first two goals of the third at 13:36 and then at 12:51 from Maida and McDonough to pull within seven goals, 14-7. Keene answered with a goal of their own at 9:00 that Iversen erased when he netted a goal at 4:27. The teams traded goals the rest of the quarter with Keene scoring at 3:56, Maritime scoring at 2:18 and Maccarini closing out the quarter with an Owls goal at 15 second. Keene took a 17-9 lead into the fourth.

Keene outscored the Buccaneers in the fourth, 5-3, to extend their lead to 22-12. In the fourth, Barrett scored one and Maida scored twice as the Buccaneers lost the quarterfinals game to the number four seeded Owls 22-12.
