Buccaneers Sunk by Seahawks on the Road

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Maritime men's lacrosse traveled to Rhode Island on Wednesday for their final non-conference tune up before beginning Little East play on Saturday in New Hampshire against Keene State. The Seahawks took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, winning the game over the Buccaneers, 15-9.

  • Brendan Treacy, Daniel Naglieri, and Liam Cooney all scored three goals to lead the Seahawks. 
  • Ryan Reilly and Christopher McCabe each scored twice.
  • Grant Willoe and Max Beauchamp scored once.
  • Reilly had three assists in the win, Beauchamp added two helpers and six other Seahawks recorded assists.
  • Justin Haverly had 11 ground balls to lead all players and won 15-of-21 faceoffs. 
  • Defensively, Naglieri led the team with two caused turnovers.
  • In total, Salve picked up 31 ground balls, were successful on all 15 clear attempts, won 18-of-27 faceoffs, and took a total of 47 shots in their win.

 

How It Happened

Salve controlled the first quarter netting seven goals to take a 7-0 lead after 15 minutes of play. 

Maritime came back in the second with three of their own goals without allowing a Seahawks goal in the quarter. SRU led the game at the half, 7-3.

In the third, the Seahawks scored the first three goals of the quarter to go up 10-3. Maritime sprinkled in a goal from Barrett in the middle of the quarters. Salve followed it up with three more unanswered goals, including one with eight second left to extend their lead to nine goals, 13-4, after three quarters.

The Bucs outscored Salve in the fourth, 5-2, including the final three goals of the game but it wouldn't be enough and the Bucs fell on the road, 15-9, to Salve.

The Bucs are on the road again for their next game on Saturday when they travel to Keene State to open Little East Conference Play against the Owls.
