FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 2, FISHER 1

MEDFORD, Mass. --  Senior Mariah McGrath’s (Mansfield, Mass.) goal with 12:11 remaining lifted Massachusetts Maritime to 2-1 non-league college women’s soccer victory over Fisher Wednesday evening at Hormel Stadium.

McGrath, who entered her final collegiate campaign without a career goal, tallied her second in as many games for the visiting Buccaneers (2-4-3), as she converted a feed from fellow senior Laura Marin (West Yarmouth, Mass.) on the deciding tally.  Junior Asia Vernon (Dutch Harbor, Ak.) had staked Massachusetts Maritime to an early advantage just 1:32 into the contest when she took a pass from sophomore Aoife Callinan (West Falmouth, Mass.) for her first goal of the season, but the host Falcons (4-8) evened matters just 2:35 after intermission when senior Alicia Alex (Pepperell, Mass.) converted a feed from freshman Julia Schojan (Greece, N.Y.) to set up the heroics by McGrath, who also netted the equalizer in the final minute of regulation in the Buccaneers’ 2-2 draw at Fitchburg State last Saturday.

Junior Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.) picked up the win in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with a nine-save effort, while freshman Paige Ciarvarro (Lynn, Mass.) made eight stops in the setback for Fisher, as the Buccaneers outshot the Falcons by a 20-14 margin while holding a 6-2 edge in corners for the night.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Westfield State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at Noon, while Fisher travels to New York City on Saturday afternoon to take off with King’s (N.Y.) in a non-league outing that begins at 1:00.
