FINAL: MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1, BAY PATH 0
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Sophomore Aoife Callinan’s (West Falmouth, Mass.) goal with just under 13 minutes remaining lifted Massachusetts Maritime to a 1-0 non-league college women’s soccer victory over Bay Path Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.
Callinan converted a cross from freshman Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) on the golden goal (her third tally of the season) for the host Buccaneers (3-5-3), and junior Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.) made that stand up in net for Massachusetts Maritime by making five saves to record her fourth shutout of the season and 10th of her career.
Sophomore Shianne Silvia (Warwick, R.I.) allowed Callinan’s marker while making four saves over the final 18-plus minutes in the setback for the visiting Wildcats (1-9), as fellow sophomore Alma Rizvani (Prospect, Conn.) made six saves in the opening 71-plus minutes of action. The Buccaneers outshot Bay Path by a 14-6 margin (11-5 on goal) and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks in the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Massachusetts Maritime hosts Worcester State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Friday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Bay Path heads into Boston on Saturday evening to take on Wheelock in a New England Collegiate Conference clash that begins at 6:00 p.m.
