Coughlin Field, Worcester, Mass.

FINAL:              WORCESTER STATE 5, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0

WORCESTER, Mass. --  Junior Alyssa Sawyer (West Springfield, Mass.) netted a goal and an assist to lead Worcester State to a 5-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Coughlin Field.

Sawyer gave the host Lancers (6-5-1, 2-1-1 MASCAC) the only goal they would need 8:49 into the contest on a feed from senior Makayla Moran (Leominster, Mass.), and junior Sarina Lathrop (Hopedale, Mass.) extended that margin to 2-0 in the 30th minute on an assist from sophomore Kiley Hardy (Pepperell, Mass.).  Worcester State struck for three goals in less than three minutes early after intermission to ice its triumph, as junior Cassie Giardina (Pittsfield, Mass.) and senior Gaby Gonet (Agawam, Mass.) tallied in a 35 second span before senior Laura Maunsell (Medford, Mass.) converted a Sawyer feed just 2:26 later to account for the final score.

Junior Shelby Archer (Dayville, Conn.) and freshman Beth Spinazzola (Westford, Mass.) added assists in the win for the Lancers, as sophomore Jillian Witkowski (Leicester, Mass.) registered her sixth victory of the season without making a save in 78-plus minutes of play.  Sophomore Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.) made nine stops in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (4-5-2, 0-4 MASCAC), as Worcester State recorded 33 of the 34 shots taken in the match.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Curry in a non-league outing on Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Worcester State entertains Colby-Sawyer in a non-league match on Wednesday evening at Coughlin Field that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
