FINAL: COAST GUARD 2, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0
NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Freshmen Terry Netusil (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and Brianna Grisell (Brookfield, Conn.) each netted first half goals to lead Coast Guard to a 2-0 non-league college women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Cadet Memorial Field.
Netusil gave the host Bears (3-4) the only marker they would need 12:20 into the contest when she converted a feed from senior Kristen Euchler (Clarksburg, Mass.), and Grisell provided an insurance tally for Coast Guard with 5:57 remaining in the opening half on a pass from junior Lindsay Duplessis (Rye, N.H.) to account for the final score.
Senior Devin Fellman (New Port Richey, Fla.) picked up the shutout victory in net for the Bears without having to make a save on the evening, while sophomore Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.), who was named earlier today as the ECAC Division III New England Co-Defensive Player of the Week, made 17 stops in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (1-1-2), as Coast Guard had all 19 shots on goal for the contest.
Massachusetts Maritime hosts Salem State in its Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at Noon, while Coast Guard opens New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference play by hosting Springfield on Saturday afternoon at Cadet Memorial Field beginning at 3:00 p.m.
