BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Lauren Salem’s (Westfield, Mass.) goal in the 69th minute of play held up as the game-winner and lifted Massachusetts Maritime to a 1-0 non-league college women’s soccer victory over Becker Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Salem converted a pass from freshman Heather Castro (Taunton, Mass.) and lofted a shot in from the left side on the deciding tally for the host Buccaneers (1-0), and sophomore Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.) made that stand up with a nine-save effort in goal to record her second career shutout, including a pair of point-blank stops in the closing 10 minutes of play.

Sophomore Katherine Cormier (San Diego, Calif.) made three stops in 61-plus minutes of action in net in the setback for the visiting Hawks (0-3), who also received a pair of saves from junior Kaitlyn Rose (North Attleboro, Mass.) in the opening 28:52 of play.  Becker outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 14-10 margin, including an 8-5 edge in the final 45 minutes, for the match, as the Buccaneers held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks for the evening.

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until next Tuesday evening when the Buccaneers head to Weston, Mass. to take on Regis in a non-league outing that begins at 6:00 p.m., while Becker hosts Pine Manor in a non-league contest on Saturday afternoon in Leicester, Mass. beginning at 1:00 p.m.
