BOSTON, Mass. --  Freshman Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, Mass.) netted a hat trick to lead UMass Boston to an 8-0 non-league college women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday afternoon at Clark Athletic Field.

Ledin tallied twice in the opening 23-plus minutes of play to give the host Beacons (11-5) the only scores they would need en route to a 2-0 advantage at the break before completing her hat trick in the 57th minute of play.  Sophomore Sam Cristoforo (Rockland, Mass.) extended UMass Boston’s lead to 4-0 just 51 seconds after Ledin’s third goal of the match, and the hosts used markers from senior Brie Cavanaugh (Belchertown, Mass.) and sophomore Julie Nutting (Rockland, Mass.) in just over a three minute span midway through the second half to extend that margin to 6-0.  Junior Courtney Viera (Fall River, Mass.) tacked on a tally in the 75th minute of play before senior Molly Kuchar’s (Asheville, N.C.) goal with 1:14 remaining capped the Beacon scoring.

Cristoforo, Viera and Kuchar each collected a goal and an assist in the win for UMass Boston, which also received three helpers from senior Kristin Mulry (Holbrook, Mass.) and a pair of assists from sophomore Tayla Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.).  Freshman Dani Perkins (Murrieta, Calif.) picked up the win in goal for the hosts without making a first half save, while fellow freshman Amanda Pang (Lowell, Mass.) made one second half stop.  Senior Emily Welsh (Shelton, Conn.) made 10 saves in net in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (2-11) as the Beacons collected 30 of the 31 shots for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Bridgewater, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match that begins at 5:30 p.m., while UMass Boston hosts Western Connecticut in a Little East Conference outing on Saturday afternoon at Clark Athletic Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.
