Buzzards Bay, Mass. --  Massachusetts Maritime sophomore midfielder Lauren Salem and senior back Colleen Fissette were named to the 2011 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer all-conference second team in a vote of the league’s eight coaches.  The honors were announced earlier today by MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann.

Salem, a native of Westfield, Mass. and a graduate of Westfield High School, was the third leading scorer for the Buccaneers this fall with a pair of goals and two assists for six points, including the game-winning tally in a 6-2 triumph over Pine Manor on October 12^th.  Salem led Massachusetts Maritime in scoring as a freshman with four goals and five assists for 13 points during her rookie season, and she is the program’s all-time leading scorer in its short four-year varsity history.

Fissette, a native of Dracut, Mass. and a graduate of Dracut High School, appeared in 14 of 15 contests for the Buccaneers in 2011, as she netted her first collegiate goal in the October 12^th victory over Pine Manor.  A team tri-captain this fall, Fissette started in all 57 matches that she appeared, including 48 in the backfield and nine as a goalie.

The Buccaneers notched a pair of victories in Head Coach Ray Cabral’s first season at the helm this fall, as Massachusetts Maritime has now placed three individuals on the MASCAC all-conference team in the last two seasons combined.
