NEW LONDON, Conn. --  Junior Kelsey Freeman (Gadsden, Ala.) netted a goal and an assist to lead Coast Guard to a 6-0 non-league college women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Cadet Memorial Field.

The two teams played to a scoreless draw in the opening half of action before freshman Holly Moore (Pittsfield, Mass.) gave the host Bears (4-2) the only goal they would need 7:07 after intermission by converting a feed from sophomore Judy Hooymans (Batavia, Ill.), and Coast Guard extended that margin to 4-0 with three tallies in less than a four minute span midway through the final 45 minutes of play.  Freeman netted an unassisted marker in the 66th minute before setting up senior Brittany Fifer’s (Camp Lejeune, N.C.) goal just over two minutes later, and senior Shannah Shelton (Upper Marlboro, Md.) capped the flurry in the 70th minute after converting a pass from freshman Lindsay Duplessis (Rye, N.H.).  Unassisted tallies by sophomore Jill Kelly (Highland Mills, N.Y.) in the 77th minute and freshman Luanna Pugliese (Miami, Fla.) in the 83rd minutes closed out the scoring for the hosts.

Senior Mary Mills (St. Louis, Mo.) picked up the win in goal for Coast Guard by making one save on the night, while freshman Emilie Conway (Middleboro, Mass.) made 14 stops in net in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (0-5), including eight first half saves on 20 shots that kept the match scoreless.  The Bears outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 33-2 margin for the contest and registered all 13 corner kicks for the evening.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Westfield State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at Noon, while Coast Guard entertains WPI in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference outing on Saturday afternoon at Cadet Memorial Field that also begins at Noon.
