BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior Jordan McDermott (East Bridgewater, Mass.) netted a goal and an assist to lead Bridgewater State to a 6-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday evening at Swenson Field.
McDermott gave the host Bears (10-6-1, 4-2 MASCAC) the only goal they would need with unassisted tally 16:37 into the contest, and senior Jade Kluver’s (Westerly, R.I.) penalty kick conversion in the 34th minute extended that margin to 2-0. Sophomore Katie Johnson (Marshfield, Mass.) converted a feed from senior Stephanie Muscato (Peabody, Mass.) with 1:06 remaining in the opening half to extend Bridgewater State’s edge to 3-0 at the break, and the Bears received markers from sophomore Katie Nasuti (Millbury, Mass.) and senior Amber LaPorte (New Hartford, Conn.) in the first 6:13 after intermission, the latter set up by McDermott, to take a 5-0 advantage. Sophomore Emma Correia’s (Mattapoisett, Mass.) goal with 7:58 remaining in the match, which came on a pass from junior Molly Copeland (North Falmouth, Mass.), closed out the scoring.
Junior Kristen Rowe (Burlington, Mass.) and sophomore Kerry Condon (Whitman, Mass.) each made a save in splitting time in goal on the night for Bridgewater State, as Rowe picked up the win in playing the opening 45 minutes of play. Senior Emily Welsh (Shelton, Conn.) made eight first half saves in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (2-12, 0-6 MASCAC), who received 11 second half stops from junior Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I.) as the Bears had 43 of the 45 shots for the contest.
Massachusetts Maritime closes out its 2011 campaign next Saturday afternoon by hosting Salem State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match at Clean Harbors Stadium that begins at Noon, while Bridgewater State closes out its regular season slate next Saturday afternoon by heading to North Adams, Mass. to take on MCLA in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing at 1:00 p.m.
