BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Freshman Marisa Parent (Revere, Mass.) netted a hat trick to lift Framingham State to a 7-1 victory over Massachusetts Maritime in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.
Parent and sophomore Kayla Austin (Winchester, Mass.) combined to score five goals in the first 22:10 of play for the visiting Rams (2-3, 1-0 MASCAC), including two each in less than a 10-minute span early in the opening half. Freshman Emily Biegner (Easthampton, Mass.) extended Framingham State’s lead to 6-0 in the 60th minute on a feed from sophomore Cara Murtagh (Quincy, Mass.) before returning the favor on Murtagh’s marker in the 72nd minute of play to close out the Rams scoring, while senior Kerri Conway (West Springfield, Mass.) accounted for the lone tally in the setback for the host Buccaneers (0-4, 0-1 MASCAC) by converting a direct kick with 51 seconds remaining in the contest to account for the final score.
Junior Hannah Jerdee (Marlboro, Mass.) added an assist in the triumph for Framingham State, as sophomore Ashley Hibbard (Marlboro, Mass.) made a pair of saves to pick up her second win of the season in goal. Freshman Emilie Conway (Middleboro, Mass.) made 14 stops in her first collegiate start in net for Massachusetts Maritime as the Rams outshot the Buccaneers by a 32-4 margin for the match.
