WESTFIELD, Mass – After a big loss to the Owls on Thursday evening, the teams met on Friday afternoon in a doubleheader to complete their three-game MASCAC series. The Owls took game two to take a 2-0 lead in the seris, shutting out the Bucs 4-0. In game two, the Buccaneers were triumphant, avoiding the series sweep, winning 7-5.

Game One

How It Happened

The Owls split their scoring in the first game of the day between the first and third innings. The two runs they scored in the first came on a single by Colin Dunn (Westfield, Mass). Dunn scored the second run for the Owls later in the inning on a wild pitch.

Westfield scored twice again in the third, first on a fielder's choice and then on a throwing error, bringing home Dunn again. That was the end of the scoring in game one, earning the Owls the 4-0 win to win the series.

At The Plate

Westfield was 4-for-21 at the plate in game one. All four hits coming from Dunn and lead-off hitter Casey Boudreau (Shrewsbury, Mass). Boudreau and Dunn also scored all four of the runs for the hosts.

The Owls had no extra base hits, walked three times, struck out twice and left one runner on base.

Maritime went 6-for-25 in game one. Matt Langan (North Easton, Mass) had two of those hits.

The Buccaneers also had no extra base hits in the game, drew no walks, struck out five times and left five runners on base.

Game Two

How It Happened

Game two of the day, game three of the series, had a little more action than game one of the day. The Bucs scored first in the top of the first with Marley Dembitzki (North Dartmouth, Mass) scoring on a Jackson Simone (Seattle, Wash) single to right field. Westfield answered and tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Dunn scored again, for the first time in game two, on an Anthony Crowley (Bellingham, Mass) single to centerfield.

The teams traded runs again in the second, the Bucs scoring twice to take a 3-1 lead with the Owls scoring three in the bottom of the frame, two on a Boudreau single to center, to take their first lead of game two, 4-3.

Maritime scored the next four runs between the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. They scored once on a bases loaded double play to tie the game once again, in the fourth. In the fifth, Dylan Sullo (Acushnet, Mass) grounded out to his shortstop counterpart but Simone scored from third, giving the Bucs the lead which they would hold on to for the remainder of the game. They scored twice in the sixth to extend their lead to 7-4, on Dembitzki and Nick Haley (Hanson, Mass) singles.

Down 7-4, the Owls attempted a last ditch comeback effort in the bottom of the seventh, scoring once on a Crowley single but that would be all they would get. The Buccaneers took game three of the series, 7-5, over Westfield.

Westfield batted 8-for-26 in game two. Dunn racked up three hits in the game for a five hit day. Boudreau and Crowley each drove in two runs apiece.

The Owls, again, had no extra base hits in game two.

WSU walked four times, struck out three times and left five runners on base.

Maritime totaled 12 hits in game two, batting 12-for-29 in the game. AJ Luciano (Lynn, Mass) led the team with three hits.

Simone has the only extra base hit in the game, a double.

Six different players drove in runs for the Bucs

Maritime walked twice, struck out three times and left seven runners on base in the win.
