Bucs Lose Tight Conference Double Header to Falcons at Home

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – The Buccaneers opened conference play Friday evening against Fitchburg State and lost the MASCAC opener 9-7. Now playing three-game conference series, the Buccaneers and Falcons met on Taylor's Point on Saturday afternoon for two more games. Friday night's game was a preview of what was to come Saturday in terms of score. Unfortunately, the scores did not fall in favor of the Buccaneers as they dropped the three game series to the Falcons with 3-2 and 1-0 scores on Saturday.

Game One

How It Happened

The starting pitchers for both teams, with a little help from their defense, kept the offenses off the board for the first three innings of game one. In the fourth inning of the seven inning affair, the Falcons scored to break the scoreless tie on an RBI single by catcher Matthew Pingatore (Rutland, Mass).

Up 1-0, the Falcons found two more opportunities to score in the top of the fifth and did just that. Vincent Eramo (Shirley, Mass) singled to score one, Josh Macomber (Berkley, Mass) grounded in to a fielder's choice to bring a run home from third. In the bottom of the frame, the Buccaneers closed the gap, scoting two runs on a Matt Langan (North Easton, Mass) single and then Joe Sanchez (Dracut, Mass) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Fitchburg got out of the inning with a one-run lead intact. Neither team scored in the sixth or seventh and the Falcons won game two, essentially winning the conference series, 3-2, with one game left to play between the teams.
