BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – Following a 13-5 loss to BSU last week in the series opener on the road, the Bucs hosted the Bears in a mid-week MASCAC double header Tuesday night. The Bears took game one of the doubleheader, game two of the series, 5-3, to take a 2-0 series lead on Maritime. In the second game of the double header, the Buccaneers prevailed, 7-1 in a rain shortened, 6 inning game.

Game One

How It Happened

Maritime took an early, 1-0, lead in the bottom of the first inning. Dylan Sullo (Acushnet, Mass) drove in Marley Dembitzki (North Dartmouth, Mass) on a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Buccaneer offense went quiet after the for much of the game but, Bridgewater was able to get on the board to tie the game in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly of their own off the bat of Kevin Bresciani (Hopedale, Mass).

Tied at 1-1 going in to the fifth, the Bears took the lead for the first time in the game scoring three times. Twice on a double by Jonathan Livolsi (Bridgewater, Mass) to right field.

With a 4-1 advantage going in to the seventh and final inning of game one, Breschiani again drove in a run for the visitors giving his team a 5-1 lead with the Bucs coming up. In the bottom of the frame the Buccaneers didn't go away without a fight, scoring two runs, one on a Dembitzki double to right, scoring Paul Sances (Middleboro, Mass) and another on a Sullo single to right to score Dembitzki later in the inning. That was as close as the Bucs would get at they dropped game two of the three game conference series 5-3.

At The Plate

Maritime batter 7-for-27 in game one. Sances and Michael Doyle (Boston, Mass) each had two hits in the game.

Sullo drove in two runs for the Bucs and Dembitzki scored two of the three Buc runs.

Maritime walked four times, struck out on three occasions and left 10 runners on base.

Bridgewater had just five hits in game one, going 5-for-25 at the plate. Ruben Gonzalez (Stoughton, Mass) had three of the five Bear hits.

Breschiani drove in three runs, Livolsi drove in the other two for the guests.

Second baseman Liam Bell (Wells, Maine) scored three runs in the win.

Bridgewater walked five times, struck out three times and left six runners on base.

Game Two

How It Happened

Game two was shortened by rain in the top of the sixth inning with two outs remaining. Before the rain began to fall, the Buccaneers ripped off a six run third inning. Four of the runs came on a Nick Haley (Hanson, Mass) grand slam, his fourth home run of the season. The fifth and sixth runs scored on a Ben Paine (Dartmouth, Mass) single up the middle, scoring AJ Luciano (Lynn, Mass) and Ethan O'Hare (Marshfield, Mass). O'Hare had reached base by way of a walk in his first plate appearance of the season.

Down 6-0, the Bears got on the board in the top of the fourth inning on a Livolsi double to make the score 6-1.

Paine drove in the seventh run for Maritime in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single, scoring Sullo with the rain beginning to fall in Buzzards Bay.

In the top of the sixth, the Bears threatened, scoring three runs, all on bases loaded walks. Unfortunately for Bridgewater, the rain was more threatening than they were and it cause a halt of the game in the top of the sixth with two outs and the bases loaded, tying run at first base. The Bucs avoided a sweep, beating the Bears 7-1.

At The Plate

Dembitzki, Paine and Jackson Simone (Seattle, Wash) all had multi-hit games. Luciano and Haley had the two extra base hits for the Bucs.

Haley drove in a game high, four runs, on the grand slam. Paine drove in the other three Maritime runs in the game.

The Bucs drew five walks, struck out seven times and left seven runners on base.

Bridgewater had five hits in game two going 5-for-21. All five hits came off of different bats and all four runs were driven in by different players.

The Bears walked five times, struck out eight times and left three runners on base.

Up Next: the Buccaneers open a three-game series with MCLA at home on Friday afternoon at 3:30pm at Commodore Hendy field before travelling to Western Mass on Saturday for the doubleheader against MCLA to complete the conference series.
