Hawks Swoop Past Buccaneers

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – Tuesday afternoon, the Buccaneers entertained the Roger Williams Hawks in the final non-conference game of the season for both team's at Commodore Hendy Field.

How It Happened

Roger Williams took an early lead, in the top of the first, scoring once on a throwing error. Leadoff hitter, Justin Stone (Blackstone, Mass) came in to score from third.

The Hawks opened up the lead to five runs in the second, scoring four in the inning. The first scored on a Stone single. Two additional runs scored on another Buc miscue later in the inning. Down 5-0, the Buccaneers plated a pair of runs. The first on a Dylan Sullo (Acushnet, Mass) triple, scoring Jackson Simone (Seattle, Wash). The second came across on a Joe Sanchez (Dracut, Mass) ground out to second base. Sullo came in to score.

A quiet third inning was followed by a loud top of the fourth with the Hawks scoring five runs. Eli Camner (Hamden, Conn) brought two runs in on a double to right center. Another came around on a Danny Roth (West Hartford, Conn) double. The Buccaneers trailed 9-2 after three and a half innings and cut the deficit to six run on another extra base hit from Sullo, a double, bringing Nick Haley (Hanson, Mass) in to score.

Roger Williams added a run in the top of the fifth on a throwing error on a steal attempt. Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass) scored as a result.

With the score 11-3, Maritime brought in two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a Sanchez double, scoring pinch hitter Jacob Crochet (Houma, La). Marley Dembitzki (North Dartmouth, Mass) drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, which catcher Bobby Beane (Hingham, Mass) scored on.

The Buccaneers had trouble making up any ground and that was no different in the top of the eighth with Roger Williams scoring twice, both due to a fielding error by the Bucs.

Down eight runs in the bottom of the ninth, the Buccaneers got a runner on base but were unable to score any runs, falling, 13-5, to the Hawks.
