Buccaneers Remain Winless in MASCAC after Loss to Bears

BRIDGEWATER, Mass – The Buccaneer baseball team travelled up the road to Bridgewater State on Wednesday for a midweek conference clash with the Bears, the first of three games between the two on the season. The first of the three games in the season series went to the Bears, 13-5.

How It Happened

Maritime scored first in the top of the third inning on a double steal in which Paul Sances (Middleboro, Mass) stole home. The lead didn't last long for the Bucs as the Bears scored four runs in the bottom of the third frame. Bridgewater opened the lead to seven runs in the fourth scoring four more.

In the top of the fifth, Ben Paine (Dartmouth, Mass) hit his first career home run, a solo shot to left to pull within six runs. In the bottom of the inning, the Bears plated two runs to run the score to 10-2 and would add three more in the bottom of the sixth.

Down 13-2, the Bucs held the Bears to the 13 runs and attempted a comeback in the eighth and ninth scoring once in the eighth and twice in the ninth but that is where it ended as the Bears closed out the 13-5 MASCAC win.
