Buccaneers Take down Gators for First win of Season

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – The Buccaneers played their second of six home games this week on Wednesday afternoon against Pine Manor College, who were playing the first game of their season against Maritime. The game went the way of the visitors early but momentum flipped halfway through the game and the Buccaneers improved to 1-4 on the season with a 9-4 victory.

 

How It Happened

Pine Manor scored first in the top of the third on and Evan Reynolds (Everett, Mass) single, to take a 1-0 lead. In the top of the fifth, they added a second run on a play in which the Buccaneers left fielder Paul Sances (Middleboro, Mass) dropped the ball on the transfer after making the out allowing Jordan Fadke (Portage, Ind) to score, followed by Reynolds being doubled up at third to end the inning, Gators up, 2-0.

The Bucs got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs. The first on a balk by pitcher Cedrick Pena (Boston, Mass). Senior captain Robert Dembitzki (North Dartmouth, Mass), who was at the plate when the balk occurred, then drove home AJ Luciano (Lynn, Mass) from third. Third baseman Angus McNeil (Middleton, Mass) drove in the other two runs in the inning on a single to left, scoring Nick Haley (Hanson, Mass) and Dembitzki.

Maritime added a run in the sixth on a throwing error, scoring Dylan Dullo (Acushnet, Mass) to extend their lead to 5-2. The Bucs added three more in the bottom of the seventh, including two on a Wyatt Major (Mattapoisett, Mass) single to left field.

The Gators threatened in the top of the eighth scoring two runs to cut the deficit to four runs. In the bottom of the eighth frame, Maritime Added their ninth an final run when Haley walked in the inning and was moved around the bases on three consecutive wild pitches.

The Buccaneers scored their nine runs on eight hits, including two by Luciano.

Sances had the lone extra base hit for the hosts.

McNeil and Major each drove in a pair of runs.

The Buccaneers struck out a season low seven times in the game.

Freshman JohnPaul Kelley (Quincy, Mass) walked three times in the game.

Only four of the nine Maritime runs were earned as the Gators committed six errors in the game.

Pine Manor used 16 field players and seven pitcher in the game.

The Gators had one multi-hit day by Reynolds, both hits were singles.

PMC had two extra base hits in the game, both doubles, by Junior Vera (Providence, R.I.) and Eduary Baez (Boston, Mass).

The visitors struck out a total of 14 times to Maritime pitching.
