Kennedy Named As MASCAC Baseball Pitcher Of The Week
Massachusetts Maritime junior righthander Kyle Kennedy was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon for his efforts in a pair of Buccaneer contests last week.
A native of Woodbury, Conn. and a graduate of Nonnewaug High School, Kennedy tossed 12 2/3 shutout innings in two appearances for Head Coach Bob Corradi’s squad, including four innings of one-hit ball with seven strikeouts in Sunday’s 7-6 victory over Salem State. Kennedy added 8 2/3 scoreless relief frames and fanned three in a 3-1 setback to Newbury last Wednesday, and for the week he held opponents to a .100 batting average.
Kennedy, who shared this week’s honor with Salem State junior Sean Buckland, has posted a 1-1 record with a team-leading 1.52 earned run average in seven appearances, as he has struck out 17 in 23 2/3 innings pitched to date while holding opponents to a .176 batting average.
Massachusetts Maritime, which stands at 8-8 overall and 3-3 in MASCAC play, hosts rival Bridgewater State in a conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
