Corradi Earns MASCAC Baseball Coach Of The Year Honors For Fourth Time In Illustrious Career
Massachusetts Maritime Head Coach Bob Corradi was named on Wednesday morning as the 2015 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Coach of the Year in a vote of his seven peers, as the longtime Buccaneer mentor guided his squad to their first league championship in 33 years this spring.
Corradi captured his fourth MASCAC Coach of the Year accolade with this year’s honor, his first since the 2008 season. After being picked to finish fifth in the conference pre-season coaches’ poll, Massachusetts Maritime ran off seven straight wins at the end of the regular season, sweeping league twinbills from MCLA, Framingham State and Westfield State to finish with a 10-4 MASCAC mark that gave his squad a share of the conference crown with Salem State and Worcester State. The last Buccaneer regular season title came during a 1982 campaign that saw Corradi’s crew win a school-record 28 games as well as the ECAC New England championship.
Corradi, a native of Bourne and a current resident of Sandwich, Mass., will retire at the end of this season, as he earned his 579th career victory with yesterday’s 6-2 triumph over rival Coast Guard. He has earned numerous awards for his longtime contributions to New England baseball, including both the Jack Butterfield and Andy Baylock Awards from the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Coaches Association as well as the Fred Ebbett Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cape Cod Baseball League. Bob has also served as the Academy’s Director of Athletics for the last 26 years, and in 2013 he was named as the ECAC Male Administrator of the Year. Corradi will receive an honorary doctorate from Massachusetts Maritime to celebrate his tenure at this year’s commencement ceremonies on June 20th.
The Buccaneers will host the MASCAC Championships this weekend for the first time in school history, as Massachusetts Maritime will take on either fourth-seeded Framingham State or fifth-seeded Westfield State in second round action on Friday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:00 p.m. EDT.
