Corradi Named As ECAC New England Baseball Co-Coach Of The Year, Sullo Earns First Team All-ECAC Honors
Though the season has been over for a month, the accolades continue to come in for the Massachusetts Maritime baseball program after one of the most successful campaigns in school history.
Buccaneer Head Coach Bob Corradi has added another honor to his Hall of Fame resume after being named as the 2015 ECAC Division III New England Co-Coach of the Year, as he shared the award with MIT Head Coach Andy Barlow. Corradi guided his crew to 17 overall triumphs this past spring and led Massachusetts Maritime to its first Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship in 33 years, and for that accomplishment he was recognized by his peers as the MASCAC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career.
Corradi, who is retiring at the end of the month after serving as the Academy’s only head baseball coach in its 43-year NCAA Division III history, earned his 579th and final career win on April 28th in a 6-2 victory over Coast Guard. He guided the Buccaneers to their eighth ECAC post-season appearance (and first in seven years) with a semifinal berth in the Division III New England semifinals at Salve Regina, and over the course of his tenure, Massachusetts Maritime claimed three conference and ECAC crowns.
Next Wednesday afternoon, Corradi will be honored as one of four Division III recipients of the 2014-15 Under Armour National Athletic Director of the Year Award at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Convention in Orlando, Florida. The 2013 ECAC Male Administrator of the Year, Bob is the longest serving athletics director in Massachusetts Maritime history, as he will retire after 26 years in that position.
Additionally, freshman catcher/outfielder Logan Sullo added another award to his outstanding rookie season after earning first team all-ECAC New England honors as a utility player. A native of Acushnet, Mass. and a graduate of Bishop Stang High School, Sullo earned the nod as both the 2015 MASCAC Player and Rookie of the Year after batting a league-leading .446 to go with eight doubles, six triples, a pair of homers and 18 RBI. Logan also led the conference with a .543 on-base percentage and a .797 slugging percentage, and he became the first Buccaneer to cop MASCAC Player of the Year honors and the third player in program history to earn league Rookie of the Year accolades, joining Bob Kent (2006) and Nick Levitre (2008) in that exclusive club.
Sullo also earned second-team utility spots on both the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Regional and the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Coaches Association All-New England squads for his efforts, as he became the 19th player in Massachusetts Maritime history to earn all-New England honors and the first since teammate Bobby Rosano in 2013. Logan finished the season ranked second nationally in triples per game, seventh in on-base percentage, eighth in slugging percentage and 14th in batting average.
