How It Happened

Rhode Island College controlled the first set from the start, picking up five points right off the bat. The Bucs chipped away but not before the Anchorwomen rattled off another seven point run. Down 16-4, Maritime could not gain momentum in the first game. They got in to double digits and couldn't get much closer with RIC going on to with the set 25-10.

The Bucs found a rhythym in the second game. Though they fell behind 6-1 early they pulled back within one at 7-6. RIC retained the momentum going on a 4-0 killstreak to extend the lead to 11-7. Another small run with the Bucs scoring intermitenetly opened the deficit to 10, 21-11. Battling back, Maritime could not catch the Anchorwomen falling in the second set, 25-16.

The battle wasn't over yet as Maritime went in to set three down set two sets and proceeded to play arguably their best set of volleyball of the season. The Bucs took a 3-0 lead right away and never looked back. Though the Anchorwomen kept it close, coming back within one at points, the Bucs kept extending their lead throughout the set, to as many as seven at 16-9. With long volleys and sound hitting, Maritime keep pushing along not allowing RIC back within four points. The Bucs went on to win the set 25-21 despite a late push by RIC.

In the fourth set, the Anchorwomen took back control of the match going on a 10-3 run to open the game. Maritime chipped to pull back within five but no closer. RIC would go on to win the set, 25-12, and the match 3-1.
