Bucs Bucked by Rams in Midweek Conference Play

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers welcomed Framingham State to Taylor's Point on Wednesday evening for a midweek conference match with the Rams. At the end of the match the Rams left the Clean Harbors Center with a 3-0 win.

The Basics

Final: Framingham 3, Maritime 0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-15)

Records: Framingham 7-6 (2-1 MASCAC)

            Maritime 1-12 (0-3 MASCAC)

For The Bucs

  • Freshman Marlo Sim (Groton, CT) led the Bucs with seven kills. Tegan Murray (Newbury, MA) added four.
  • Senior Captain Bianca Andronic (Somerset, MA) led the team with 15 assists. 
  • Sophomore Captain Ameena Freeman posted a team-high two service aces.
  • Defensively, Isabelle Miazga (Rocky Hill, CT) picked up 14 digs in the match. 
  • Overall, the Bucs posted a neutral .000 hitting percentage with .086 percentage in the third set.

For The Rams

  • Brandee Thomas posted a match-high 10 kills. Valerie Sullivan added nine of her own. Hailey Sanders had seven kills for the Rams.
  • Hayley Gaskin tallied a match-high 30 assists.
  • Isabel Henwood recorded 15 digs defensively. 
  • Jamiyae Mattress and Sanders each had a solo block. Mattress, Gaskin, Sanders and Anna Szymanski each had a block assist in the win.
  • Framingham had a .355 hitting percentage in the match with an outstanding .481 percentage in the third set.

How It Happened

Framingham was strong from the start of the match, jumping out to a 12-5 lead in the first game. The Bucs would never get back within five points of the Rams in the set. The hosts went on a small, three-point run, in the late stages of the game though the Rams would take control once again to bring the set to a 25-15 final.

The Bucs were in the second game early on trailing 7-5 at one point. Framingham proceeded to go on a 9-0 run, taking a 16-5 advantage. After a Maritime points, the Rams went on a five-point run and then chipped away, allowing the Bucs to score on only a few more occassions. Framingham took the second set 25-9.

Down 2-0, the Bucs came out strong in the third set, taking a 5-2 lead in the early stages. A strong Framingham team didn't allow it to go further, going on an 8-1 scoring streak to retake the lead and extend it to 10-6. Maritime sprinkled in some points as the set progressed though they couldn't hold off the Rams. Framingham won the third set, 25-15, and the match, 3-0.

 

What's Next

The Buccaneers travel to Dartmouth, MA on Saturday for a non-conference tri-match with UMass Dartmouth and Southern Maine at 2pm and 4pm.
