WESTFIELD, Mass. --  Senior Maura Stack (Wilbraham, Mass.) netted a hat trick and a pair of assists for five points to lead Westfield State to a 16-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

 

The host Owls (10-4, 5-1 MASCAC) jumped out to a 12-0 advantage at the break in scoring the first 14 goals of the contest, as sophomores Amanda Bouchard (Lexington, Mass.) and Bridgett Everett (Lexington, Mass.), along with freshman Megan Griffin (Granby, Conn.), each netted two tallies for Westfield State.  Freshman Sam Lungarini (Feeding Hills, Mass.) added a marker and two helpers for the winners, who also received a goal and an assist each from senior Sadie Graham (North Andover, Mass.), junior Lee Meskevich (Becket, Mass.) and sophomores Stephanie Lenhardt (Duxbury, Mass.) and Mikhala Reedy (Ipswich, Mass.).

 

Senior Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I.) netted the lone marker in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (2-11, 1-5 MASCAC), as freshman Mimi Khampaeng (Hampden, Mass.) picked up the win with three saves for Westfield State, which also received single tallies off the sticks of junior Jen Carew (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman Kiley Berube (Fitchburg, Mass.).  Sophomore Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) made 10 stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as the Owls outshot the Buccaneers by a 34-4 margin for the match.

 

Both squads will participate in next week’s MASCAC Championships, which begin with quarterfinal round play on Tuesday evening.  Massachusetts Maritime has earned its first post-season berth in just the program’s second varsity season, as the Buccaneers will be seeded sixth and travel to third-seeded Worcester State on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.  Westfield State is seeded second in this year’s championships and will host the winner of the Worcester State-Massachusetts Maritime quarterfinal on Thursday evening at Alumni Field beginning at 7:00 p.m.
