BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Nora McDonough (South Hadley, Mass.) netted five goals and an assist for six points to lead Elms to a 10-8 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Thursday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

McDonough collected four of her five tallies in the opening 12:40 of the second half that enabled the visiting Blazers (3-6) to overcome a 5-4 halftime deficit, as she snapped a 6-6 deadlock with an unassisted goal 7:40 after intermission to give Elms the lead for good.  Freshman Molly Smith’s (Westwood, Mass.) free position goal with 11:30 remaining in the match allowed the host Buccaneers (2-6) to creep back to within one at 8-7, but a pair of tallies in a 47 second span off the sticks of senior Chelsey Grabowski (South Hadley, Mass.) and freshman Ashley Cava (Wilbraham, Mass.) provided insurance for the visitors en route to their triumph.

Cava collected a hat trick in the victory for Elms, which also received a goal and an assist from Grabowski to go with a tally from sophomore Lauren Mazza (Agawam, Mass.) and a helper off the stick of junior Brianna Lyons (Canton, Mass.).  Smith and senior Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I.) each netted two goals in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which jumped out to a 3-0 advantage midway through the opening half of play, while freshman Shavonne Boyle (Doylestown, Pa.) added a marker and two assists for three points.  Senior Shelagh Hogan (North Andover, Mass.) notched a marker and helper on the night for the Buccaneers, who also received goals from freshmen Janine Prokscha (Washington, Conn.) and Dominique Dertien (Oviedo, Fla.).

Sophomore Alysha Parsons (Newington, Conn.) picked up the win in goal for Elms with a five-save effort, while sophomore Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) made 15 stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime as the Blazers outshot the Buccaneers by a 33-17 margin for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Salem, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Salem State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match that begins at 5:00 p.m., while Elms travels to Nashua, N.H. on Saturday afternoon to take on Daniel Webster in a New England Collegiate Conference outing beginning at 3:00 p.m.
