LEICESTER, Mass. -- Junior attack Ashley Mossey (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) scored six goals to lead Becker to a 12-6 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Thursday evening at Alumni Field.
Junior Christina Boucher (Pawcatuck, Conn.) netted a pair of markers in the opening 13:13 of action that staked the host Hawks (2-7) to an early 4-0 advantage, and after tallies by freshmen Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.) and Shavonne Boyle (Doylestown, Pa.) enabled the visiting Buccaneers (2-5) to slice their deficit in half, Mossey’s free-position conversion with 4:44 to play in the half extended Becker’s lead to 5-2 at the break. Mossey added three goals in the first 4:55 after intermission to stretch the hosts’ edge to 8-3, and her third free position goal of the night with 8:40 remaining gave the Hawks their largest lead of the contest at 11-4 en route to their triumph.
Junior Samantha Jo-Dilkes (Little Falls, N.J.) added a hat trick and an assist for four points in the win for Becker, which also received a hat trick from Boucher as well as single assists off the sticks of sophomore Mindy Moreau (Canterbury, Conn.) and freshman Rachel Welling (Charlestown, N.H.). Freshman Janine Prokscha (Washington, Conn.) collected a hat trick in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of tallies from Smith as well as a marker and helper from Boyle.
Freshman Shelby Wicks (Shaftsbury, Vt.) picked up the win in goal for Becker with a four-save effort, while sophomore Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) made 13 stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime as the Hawks outshot the Buccaneers by a 34-14 margin for the contest.
