Courcy, Hogan Collect Senior Night Goals As Women's Lacrosse Drops 20-4 MASCAC Decision To Bridgewater State

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshman Lauren Geary (Hull, Mass.) netted four goals and five assists for nine points to lead Bridgewater State to a 20-4 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

 

The visiting Bears (14-2, 5-0 MASCAC) clinched at least a share of the conference regular season title with the triumph, as Bridgewater State scored the first seven goals of the contest, including a hat trick off the stick of sophomore Riley Cachelin (Westwood, Mass.), en route to an 11-1 advantage at the break.  The Bears collected the first eight tallies after intermission, including a hat trick from junior Taylor Clancy (Braintree, Mass.), to ice their triumph and run their winning streak to three straight.

 

Cachelin finished with four goals and three assists for seven points on the night for Bridgewater State, which also received four tallies and a pair of helpers off the stick of Clancy.  Senior Jill Caramello (Duxbury, Mass.) chipped in with four markers and a helper for the Bears, who also received a pair of goals and six assists from freshman Alexis Hadcock (East Lyme, Conn.).  Senior Shelby Farland (Fiskdale, Mass.) added a goal and two assists for the winners, who also received a tally off the stick of junior Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.).

 

Senior Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I.) netted a goal and an assist in the setback for the host Buccaneers (2-10, 1-4 MASCAC), who also received single tallies off the sticks of senior Shelagh Hogan (North Andover, Mass.) as well as freshmen Shavonne Boyle (Doylestown, Pa.) and Janine Prokscha (Washington, Conn.).  Freshman Chandler Ross (Wrentham, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Bridgewater State with one save in 45-plus minutes of action, while sophomore Jessica Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) made two stops over the final 14-plus minutes of play for the visitors.  Sophomore Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) made 18 saves in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as the Bears outshot the Buccaneers by a 44-8 margin for the match.

 

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Westfield, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Westfield State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing that begins at Noon, while Bridgewater State hosts Salem State in a MASCAC match on Friday evening in Bridgewater, Mass. beginning at 7:00 p.m.
