Sailing: Bucs Pick up two Second Place Finishes on the Weekend

This weekend, the Buccaneers sailing team took part in three regattas. Two of which took place on Great Herring Pond, the other was hosted by Salve Regina in Rhode Island. 

At Salve Regina on Saturday and Sunday, the Buccaneers put together a strong showing in Brenton Cove. In the 12 events, the Bucs finished outside of the top five once with a seventh place finish and finished outside of the top two on four occasions while picking up two event victories. A strong URI team ahead of them held the Bucs in second place throughout the day as that's where they finished, behind the Rams. Maritime beat out the likes of Tufts, Northeastern, UMass Amherst, Yale, Bates, SUNY Stony Brook, host Salve Regina, UNH, Fairfield and UMass Dartmouth.

In the Central Series regatta that took place on Herring Pond on Saturday, the Buccaneers sent out two boats. With a shifty west-northwest win at 5-15 knots, the field of eight teams raced in eight separate races. The Buccaneers 1 boat had a top finish of fourth in the eight races and finished in seventh place with a total of 202 points. The Buccaneers 2 boat finished just ahead of the 1 boat with 178 points. Both boats finished ahead of UMass Amherst's boat in eighth. Salve Regina won the event handley with 65 points, 25 ahead of Northeastern in second.

On Sunday, The Buccaneers hosted the Herring Pond Team Race. With Roger Williams, Olin College of Engineering, and Bates College on hand to compete, the Bucs finished second behind Roger Williams with a record of 6-3 in the nine events. The Bucs boat, skippered by Stephen Poirier, also consisted of Auguste PizzanoTyler EgeliJewel HuynhAndy Leshaw and Jack Clasby

The Buccaneers will host an event on Saturday and Sunday, April 9th and 10th at Herring Pond. They will also travel to Maine Maritime for an event on both days as well.
