Sailing Snags Top 10 Finish at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass -- Buccaneer sailing participated in the Lark Invite, hosted by Tufts University, this weekend and put together a strong showing. In a field of 20 competitive boats, the Bucs finished 10th with 113 points from 12 heats.

On Saturday, it was a fun, warm day of sailing on the Mystic with temperatures in the 70s and partial cloud cover. The course was set for a WSW wind, with shifts from 30° on each side, ranging from 4-10 knots. Big puffs came from the south early in the day and shifted west as the day progressed. The teams ran mostly W6s as the breeze came sideways to the lake. Sunday was more of the same early until the winds were lost in the late morning causing the races to stop for the weekend.

The Bucs 10th overall finish included two top five heat finishes, fourth in the third race of the event and a second place finish in the eighth. Their worst heat of the day resulted in a 17th place finish but in all other races they never finished lower than 12th.

Maritime will be back out on the water next weekend with scheduled events at MIT, Larchmont and a home event at Great Herring Pond.
