Fourth at McMillan Qualifies Sailing for Kennedy Cup

ANNAPOLIS, MD -- This past weekend, the Buccaneer off-shore sailing team took part in the annual McMillan Cup at the Naval Academy. While this is one of the more prestegious events in sailing, finishing in the top five qualifies teams for the Kennedy Cup in November, the sailing championship event also held at the Naval Academy.

The Buccaneers put together a great showing at the McMillan Cup, as they have perennially in recent years. While hosts Navy finished in the top spot, the Bucs took home fourth place, ahead of SUNY Maritime, Coast Guard, Maine Maritime, the University of Maryland, and Army. 

In the five legs of the event the Buccaneers posted two top three finishes, winning the first race and finishing third in the second. In the final three events of the weekend the Bucs finished seventh, sixth and fifth to hold on to the fourth place spot with 22 total points and a tiebreaker over SUNY due to their top spot finish in the first race of the weekend.
