Sailing Opens Season at Maine Maritime

CASTINE, Maine – The Buccaneer sailing team spent their first weekend of the season in Castine, Maine taking part in the Harman Cup and Penobscot Bay Open, hosted by Maine Maritime. 

In the Harman Cup, the Bucs finished ahead of Bates College with 42 points to the Bobcats 46 points. In the either heats in the Cup, the Buccaneers posted six fifth place finishes and two sixth place finishes. Overall, the Bowdoin Polar Bears were at the top of the leader board in the Cup with 13 points, including four wins in eight races.

In the Penobscot Bay Open regatta, the Bucs finished behind Maine Maritime with 342 points. In a difficult field that included Boston University, Northeastern University, and URI, the Bucs were unable to get out of eighth place in any of the heats. As they did in the Harman Cup, the Polar Bears were victorious in the Penobscot Bay Open.

The Buccaneers are scheduled to compete at Bowdoin, the Naval Academy and the Mattapoisett Yacht Club next Saturday and Sunday.
