FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --  Senior Sean Callahan (Watertown, Mass.) rapped out a pair of hits, including a three-run homer, and drove in four runs as Framingham State completed a sweep of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime by an 8-1 final on Sunday afternoon at Bowditch Field.  The host Rams overcame a three-run deficit in the opener by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to notch an 11-8 triumph.

Framingham State (12-9, 3-1 MASCAC) jumped out to an early lead in its first at-bat of the lid-lifter with a three-run outburst highlighted by freshman Matt Roberge’s (Lowell, Mass.) solo homer, but the visiting Buccaneers (7-8, 2-2 MASCAC) stormed back with four runs in the top of the second, including a three-run homer off the bat of junior William Shouldice (Rutland, Vt.), to take a 4-3 edge.  The Rams regained a one-run advantage in the bottom of the third on junior Jason Hutchinson’s (Kingston, Mass.) two-run round-tripper, but Massachusetts Maritime plated four more runs in the top of the fifth on RBI singles by seniors Nick Levitre (Grafton, Mass.) and Greg Wiggin (Marshfield, Mass.) as well as a run-scoring single by sophomore Tyler Genereux (Duxbury, Mass.) a steal of home by fellow sophomore Aram Mulhern (Taunton, Mass.), to take an 8-5 lead.  The hosts got two runs back in the bottom of the frame on an error and wild pitch, and a two-run single by sophomore Will Crofton (Hopkinton, Mass.) provided the deciding runs for Framingham State, which also received a bases-loaded walk to sophomore Justin Forman (Watertown, Mass.) and a sacrifice fly by senior Joe Sheehan (Burlington, Mass.) that accounted for the final score.

Crofton and Hutchinson each collected two hits and three RBI in the opening game triumph for the Rams, as freshman Matthew DiCato (Winthrop, Mass.) picked up his fourth victory of the season in relief for the hosts.  Shouldice, Genereux and sophomore Zachary Sullivan (Barnstable, Mass.) each rapped out two hits in the opening setback for the Buccaneers, who also received an RBI groundout off the bat of senior Corey Murphy (East Wareham, Mass.).  Freshman Nick Thomas (Brockton, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound in relief for the visitors, allowing all four sixth inning runs to fall to 2-3 on the season.

Callahan’s RBI single in the bottom of the first of the nightcap gave Framingham State an early 1-0 run, and junior Chris Blydell’s (Lynn, Mass.) lead-off homer in the third extended that margin to 2-0.  Shouldice’s second round-tripper of the day (and season) sliced Massachusetts Maritime’s deficit in half in the top of the fifth, but the Rams erupted for six runs in the bottom of the frame, including a three-run homer by Callahan and a solo shot off the bat of Crofton, to take control and complete the sweep of the twinbill.

Blydell, Roberge, Callahan and Hutchinson each had two hits as part of a 13-hit attack in the nightcap triumph for Framingham State, which also received a pair of hits and two RBI off the bat of junior Chris Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass.).  Senior Tommy Lindberg (Stratford, Conn.) went the distance on the mound for the Rams, scattering four hits and fanning three to improve to 4-1 on the season.  Shouldice, Sullivan, senior Michael Vargas (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Hunter Horton (Wareham, Mass.) collected hits in the nightcap setback for the Buccaneers, as Genereux allowed six runs in four-plus innings to fall to 2-1 on the mound for the visitors.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Emerson in a non-league outing on Tuesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Framingham State heads to Lynn, Mass. on Tuesday evening to square off with Fisher in a non-league contest that begins at 7:00 p.m.
