BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior William Shouldice (Rutland, Vt.) rapped out a pair of hits, including his third home run in three games, and drove in four runs to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 13-3 non-league college baseball victory over Emerson Tuesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field.

The host Buccaneers (8-8), who matched their entire victory total of last season with the triumph, jumped out to a 7-0 lead in their first at-bat in putting together four hits and taking advantage of three walks, as a two-run double by Shouldice, coupled with RBI singles off the bats of sophomore Zachary Sullivan (Barnstable, Mass.) and senior Andrew Saari (Framingham, Mass.), highlighted the frame.  Shouldice added a two-run round-tripper in the bottom of the second to extend Massachusetts Maritime’s edge to 9-0, but the visiting Lions (9-17) got a run back in the third on an RBI single off the bat of junior Geoff Lopes (East Falmouth, Mass.) and plated two more tallies in the top of the fourth on bases loaded walks to juniors Adam Speakman (Barrington, R.I.) and Austin Fontanella (Pelham, N.H.) to close to within six at 9-3.  Senior Nick Levitre’s (Grafton, Mass.) three-run double in the bottom of the frame got those runs back for the Buccaneers, who closed out the scoring in the fifth on an error.

Saari finished with three hits as part of a 13-hit attack in the victory for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of safeties from Sullivan.  Senior Corey Murphy (East Wareham, Mass.) picked up his first win of the season on the mound for the Buccaneers, as he allowed three runs and fanned a pair over six innings of work.  Freshmen Cal Ciarcia (Dennis, Mass.) and Kolby Woodfield (West Hartford, Conn.) joined Fontanella in recording two hits each in the setback for Emerson, which also received the 100th career hit off the bat of senior Peter Maltzan (Lexington, Mass.).  Sophomore Brandon Topp (Andover, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound for the Lions in one inning of work as the starter.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Wentworth in a non-league outing on Thursday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Emerson travels in Henniker, N.H. on Friday afternoon to take on New England College in a non-league match-up that begins at 3:00 p.m.
