BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Tyler Dennis (Stoughton, Mass.) belted a two-run homer and drove in three runs to lead Bridgewater State to a 12-3 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field.

The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but the second game was postponed due to fog that came in over the field in the top of the second inning.  The game will be re-played in its entirety on Wednesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:00 p.m.

The visiting Bears (16-12, 5-4 MASCAC) took advantage of a pair of errors to ignite a five-run third inning rally, as sacrifice flies off the bats of Dennis and junior Ian Williams (Taunton, Mass.) sandwiched an RBI double off the bat of senior Matt Greenberg (Norwell, Mass.).  Sophomore Keane Costa’s (Fairhaven, Mass.) run-scoring two-bagger capped the rally for Bridgewater State, which received a two-run round-tripper off the bat of Dennis (his first of the season) in the fourth before sending 11 men to the plate in a five-run sixth inning outburst that included a two-run single by junior Dave Billotte (Norton, Mass.) as well as RBI singles by Williams and Costa to cap the visitors’ scoring.  Senior Michael Vargas (Framingham, Mass.) got the host Buccaneers (9-15, 3-8 MASCAC) on the board in the bottom of the frame with a two-run double, and he later scored on an RBI groundout off the bat of sophomore Zachary Sullivan (Barnstable, Mass.) to account for the hosts’ run total.

Williams and Costa each had two of Bridgewater State’s 11 hits for the afternoon, as senior Jeff Puopolo (Brockton, Mass.) went the distance on the mound for the Bears in striking out seven to improve to 2-3 on the season.  Senior Greg Wiggin (Marshfield, Mass.) collected two of Massachusetts Maritime’s seven hits in the setback, as senior Corey Murphy (East Wareham, Mass.) suffered the defeat on the mound for the Buccaneers in allowing five unearned runs and fanning four to fall to 1-4 on the season.
