Bucs Swept by Tough Opponents in Maine

PORTLAND, ME -- The Buccaneers volleyball team traveled to Maine on Saturday to play a tri-match at Southern Maine against the Huskies and the Trinity Bantams. Against two of the tougher teams in the region, the Buccaneers were swept in straight sets in both matches.

 

Match One

The Basics

Final: Huskies 3, Buccaneers 0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-18)

Records: Southern Maine (2-6)

               Maritime (1-3)

 

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

Southern Maine

  • Drew Johnson led all players with 12 kills. Darrien Pugsley added 10.
  • Tiara Begishe had 30 assists in the win.
  • Sierra Castonguay had seven service aces to lead all players in the match.
  • Defensively, Castonguay had nine digs.
  • At the net, Madison Zimmer recorded three block assists, Anyelis Hernandez had two, and Begishe tallied one.

Final: Bantams 3, Buccaneers 0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-21_

Records: Trinity (6-0)

               Maritime (1-4)

 

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Hailey Rumlow was the clubhouse leader in kills for the Bucs with five. Marlo Stark had four kills of her own. 
  • Shayla Narodowg once again led the Buccaneers in assists with 14 which also was a match-high.
  • Stark tallied two aces in the loss.
  • Defensively, Audrey Manning again led the Bucs in digs with eight.
  • At the net, Maliah Servino and Narodowg each had one block assist.

Trinity

  • Eva Lekovic had a match-high 13 kills. 
  • Caroline Howell led the way in assists for the Bantams with eight.
  • Howell had four aces to lead all players.
  • Defensively, Scarlett Jago had nine digs.
  • At the net, Lekovis and Bella Caffuzzi each had a solo block. Caffuzi and Rai Davis had a block assist each.

The Buccaneers are back on the road on Tuesday to take on Lesley University in Cambridge at 8pm.
