BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) and freshman Jennifer Roy (Attleboro, Mass.) each notched five kills to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 3-0 non-league college volleyball victory over Pine Manor by game scores of 25-21, 26-24 and 25-12 in a match played Wednesday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

 

Senior Emily Calnan (Hingham, Mass.) added four kills in the triumph for the host Buccaneers (4-12), who have now posted their highest single-season win total in nine years in just 16 contests played this fall.  Junior Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) chipped in with three kills for Massachusetts Maritime, as she joined Klangos and junior Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.) in registering 12 digs each.  Junior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) collected 15 set assists and 11 digs for the Buccaneers, who received four service aces from O’Connor to go with four digs each from junior Melissa Harris (Scituate, Mass.) and freshman Kaleigh Hoffman (Noblesville, Ind.).

 

Sophomore Mary Owen (Houston, Tex.) and freshman Jenna Hall (Glens Falls, N.Y.) each notched six kills in the setback for the visiting Gators (3-14), who also received 16 set assists, 10 digs, four service aces and three kills from sophomore Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Ak.).  Sophomore Rachael Julien (Brockton, Mass.) chipped in with 11 digs and a pair of kills for Pine Manor, which also received 12 digs from Owen and eight digs from senior Carline Kirksey-Almond (Lawrence, Mass.).  The win was Massachusetts Maritime’s third straight over the Gators, as the Buccaneers took four of the six matches played between the two teams during the season.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads into Boston on Saturday afternoon for a non-league tri-match with Becker and host Wentworth that begins at 1:00 p.m., while Pine Manor travels to Wenham, Mass. on Saturday morning for a non-league doubleheader with Gordon beginning at 11:00 a.m.
