CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. --  Senior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) registered 24 kills and 16 digs, while junior Meghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) added 10 kills and 16 digs to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a sweep of a non-league college volleyball doubleheader from Pine Manor on Saturday afternoon at Brunelli Court, as the visiting Buccaneers swept the opener by a 3-0 margin before taking a 3-1 nightcap decision.

 

Klangos collected nine kills, nine digs and five service aces in Massachusetts Maritime’s (3-12) opening 25-16, 25-9, 25-11 victory, as Brain added nine digs, five kills and four service aces for the Buccaneers.  Freshman Jennifer Roy (Attleboro, Mass.) chipped in with four kills in the opener for the visitors, who also received 10 digs and five service aces from junior Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.).  Junior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) notched 16 set assists and a pair of service aces as well for the winners, who also received three kills from senior Emily Calnan (Hingham, Mass.) to go with five service aces from freshman Kaleigh Hoffman (Noblesville, Ind.).  Senior Natasia Franklin (Windsor, Conn.) recorded five kills and 12 digs in the opening setback for the host Gators (3-13), who also received four kills and 10 digs from senior Carline Kirksey-Almond (Lawrence, Mass.) to go with 12 digs, seven set assists and three kills from sophomore Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Ak.).

 

Klangos matched her career-high with 15 kills while adding six digs and five service aces in Massachusetts Maritime’s 25-19, 22-25, 25-10, 25-16 nightcap triumph, as the Buccaneers also received eight kills, six service aces and five digs from Calnan as well as 21 set assists, nine digs, three kills and two service aces from Ethier.  Brain chipped in with five kills and seven digs for the visitors, who also received four kills from Roy, 10 digs from O’Connor and five more service aces from Hoffman.  Whiteshield paced Pine Manor’s attack in the second match setback with 13 set assists, 12 digs, five kills and four service aces, while Franklin added 15 digs and three kills for the Gators, who also received four kills each and a combined 12 digs from Kirksey-Almond and sophomore Rachael Julien (Brockton, Mass.).  Senior Shaniesha Williams (Boston, Mass.) chipped in with three kills for the hosts, who also received eight digs from freshman Nadia Obeise (Bronx, N.Y.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime and Pine Manor will meet once again on Wednesday evening in a non-league match at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The Buccaneers have won three of the five matches played this season with the Gators, including a 3-0 triumph back on September 12th during a tri-match at Curry.
