BOSTON, Mass. --  Junior Stephanie Nihan (Dracut, Mass.) and sophomore Sydney Meyers (Washington, D.C.) each notched six kills to lead Wentworth to a 3-0 victory over Massachusetts Maritime in the nightcap of a non-league college volleyball tri-match played Saturday afternoon at Tansey Gymnasium.  The host Leopards also swept a 3-0 decision from Becker in the opening match of the day, while the Hawks collected a 3-0 triumph over the Buccaneers in the middle contest.

 

Senior Hannah Bailey (Plymouth, Mass.), junior Jordan Young (Derry, N.H.) and sophomore Caroline Shea (Abington, Mass.) recorded three kills each in Wentworth’s (7-13) 25-11, 25-21, 25-13 victory over Massachusetts Maritime (4-14), while junior Amanda Hunton (Monroe, N.Y.) collected 12 set assists and six digs for the Leopards, who also received seven set assists and five service aces from sophomore Katelyn Carlson (Stratford, Conn.).  Meyers added four service aces in the final match of the day for the hosts, who also received nine digs from freshman Lillie Clark (Vista, Calif.).

 

Freshman Jennifer Roy (Attleboro, Mass.) registered a career-high six kills in the nightcap setback for the Buccaneers, who also received five kills and four digs from senior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.).  Junior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) collected 12 set assists and six digs for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received five digs each from juniors Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) and Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.).

 

Senior Samantha Caouette (Montague, Mass.) recorded eight kills, eight digs and four service aces in Becker’s (8-11) 25-21, 25-16, 25-12 win over the Buccaneers in the middle contest, as the Hawks also received five kills from junior Cheyenne Melanson (Sandown, N.H.).  Junior Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I.) and freshman Brittney Bullis (Stafford, Va.) combined for seven kills and 17 digs for Becker, which also received 14 set assists and four service aces from sophomore Charlene Landry (Gorham, Maine) in collecting their third triumph of the season over Massachusetts Maritime.  Klangos collected six kills and nine digs in the middle match setback for the Buccaneers, who also received five kills from senior Emily Calnan (Hingham, Mass.), 12 set assists and six digs from Ethier and 10 digs from O’Connor in seeing their three-match winning streak come to an end.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Salem, Mass. on Tuesday evening to take on Salem State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Becker hosts Southern Vermont in a New England Collegiate Conference clash on Wednesday evening in Leicester, Mass. that also begins at 7:00 p.m.  Wentworth travels to Newport, R.I. on Tuesday evening to square off with Salve Regina in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
